Description states "Photo courtesy Lockheed Martin". "Courtesy photo" in the world of publishing generally means this is an image which a photographer has allowed an organisation to use. It does not equate to the photographer being an employee of the US Govt, nor does it mean that the US Govt has the right to publish it with terms that equate to being in the public domain. The permissions, rather the entire ticket seems badly handled. I can't find any permissions from the copyright holder rather a forwarded statement from DVIDS that "all content - even those listed as 'Courtesy' are public domain and available for anyone to use. There should be no hesitation on your end." This type of permission is not what we usually approve. Regards, Aafi (talk) 04:11, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. The statement from DVIDS in VRT is not correct - there is no proven method where by publishing something from a third party on a US Military website, the third party automatically abandons their copyright and the content becomes Public Domain. DVIDS' copyright page confirms that third party content may be copyrighted. We need evidence that the copyright holder (Lockheed Martin) released the content under a free license. - Keep: Per previous deletion request on Commons:Deletion requests/File:An F-35 Lightning II completes a flyover of USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000). (29774535153).jpg which is also an Andy Wolfe picture from Lockheed Martin, "All F-35 Lightning II photography and videography taken by contract photographers (Lockheed Martin, KBRwyle, etc.) in support of F-35 Lightning II flight test are official DoD imagery and in the public domain. - @Elisfkc, thanks for mentioning the ticket number. We can keep all the F-35 pictures per this ticket, and leave the other DRs open for further evaluation. Regards, Aafi (talk) 19:33, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
