Mein Körper, Meine Identität, Mein Leben! has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this gallery, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Pictures from BoundCon

[edit]

Regarding your recent comment about the pictures from BoundCon, see my original message at Commons:Deletion requests/Pictures from BoundCon:

I have asked the event staff about this back in 2013. The message I received is below: Solange keine Unbeteiligten, also Gäste zu erkennen sind, können Sie gerne Fotos von der BoundCon veröffentlichen... Andreas Voetterl

Translation: As long as no non-involved people, that is to say guests, can be identified, you can gladly publish photos from BoundCon... Andreas Voetterl

Original message----- From: (JIP) Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2013 10:52 PM To: info@boundcon.com Subject: Publication of photos I have visited BoundCon X in May 2013 and have taken photos of the models. Am I allowed to publish the photos on WikiMedia Commons or on a Finnish BDSM forum? The publication would of course be completely non-commerical. A special question is about this photo of 13 women in handcuffs at a bondage show by British Bondage. I have understood that not all of these women are models - some are normal guests. Is this true? And if it is, am I still allowed to publish the photo? (Note: In the end, I never published the photo of 13 women in handcuffs.)

JIP (talk) 13:49, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @JIP: OTRS will need this letter (send from the event host to OTRS-permissions). But there is a problem: the mail speaks about "non-commercial" (nc )use, but Commons needs a free (=commercial) license. It would certainly best if the host names a specific license (ie cc-by-sa-4.0) in their mail and if this was linked to the license text at creative-commons.org. --C.Suthorn (talk) 14:02, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So what exactly should I ask the event host for? I'm kind of new to this OTRS thing. Could you give some sort of example request? JIP (talk) 15:16, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, do you really mean to promote "wikimedia.commons.org" instead of "commons.wikimedia.org" in the "Copyright holder" field of the metadata of your uploads like File:How home is refuge how strong is border how legal is justice how liberal is freedom how many is germany how brave is fear how climate is change how is longing how native is nation how human is right answer is question present is wall 01.jpg? Dateibeschreibung als Template

[edit]

Stereoscopic images

[edit]

Thank you again for your help at the Village Pump. I was just admiring your stereoscopic (3D) images and noticed that some of them aren't actually stereoscopic: File:Sundial at Marktkirche in Hannover in 3D 1.jpg, File:Eiserner Steg in 3D 2.jpg and File:Sculptures at Historisches Museum in Frankfurt am Main in 3D 1.jpg each feature 2 identical copies of a single image rather than 2 distinct (left/right) images. Perhaps there was an error during processing that escaped your attention? An easy mistake to make, I'm sure. Anyway, I thought it worth mentioning. Hopefully you still have the original files so you can re-upload them correctly. All the best, nagualdesign 07:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the notice. Of course I have the original files (and also a database detailing where I stored which file) so I will look on that and correct mistakes. But not at once, I am busy with more urgent projocts at the moment. (an additional note: I have recently started to use "StereoPhotoMaker" (a japanese software) that is specialized in processing Stereo images and siginificantlty reduces the chance of processing errors) --C.Suthorn (talk) 08:35, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There's no rush, of course. Fun fact: I have a similar photographic hobby but kind of the opposite in a way. I take photographs using a panoramic tripod head, which ensures that there's zero parallax when panning and tilting so that the photographs can be seamlessly stitched into a panorama, whereas you make sure that there's always a certain amount of parallax. nagualdesign 01:45, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. When you want to delete a file by manually using the {{Delete}} template, please remember to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion, otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 06:46, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unterkategorie Reichstag

[edit]

--C.Suthorn (talk) 17:15, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Resource usage

[edit]

OK, I just happened to spot this one on the Commons Main page.. While I appreciate the effort, I do wonder if we should be spending 4 GB (or rather in this case actually 18,5 GB, because of multiple upload revisions) for 5 minutes of video at a resolution that is... cinema worthy.. It seems rather excessive to me. Could this video not have been optimized before upload ? —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:01, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

--C.Suthorn (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and by the way: It would be nice to upload MP4 and MW-software transcodes to AV1. --C.Suthorn (talk) 16:15, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sign Language Videos

[edit]
Follow up of Commons:Village pump/Archive/2022/07#New Sign language videos not displayed properly.

Hello C., thank for your input. Generally speaking, :file and :media files are (should be) the same file from what was uploaded, unless Commons does some minor media processing on those. File:LL-Q33302_(fsl)-Antoine_l._(0x010C)-livre.webm (then click to download full version), media:LL-Q33302_(fsl)-Antoine_l._(0x010C)-livre.webm and https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/LL-Q33302_%28fsl%29-Antoine_l._%280x010C%29-livre.webm should be the same file.

For a lead on that bug, I think Lingualibre is messing up some encoding or metadata when sending the file to commons. But since there isn't an easy answer, I opened a ticket on Wikimedia Phabricator, and it will need to wait a for a web (?) dev to dig into that. Nothing more we contributors can do. Yug (talk) 12:45, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Yug: Does Lingua Libre use an own Upload tool? If so, this tool could check if file length and message digest are identical between uploaded and local file (the server provides this data after the assembly stage, before the upload tool request publishing.) C.Suthorn (talk) 14:59, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it use Upload2Commons, a custom MediaWiki extension. The weird thing is, this code did not change in past 3 years. But all videos media uploads are now read by Commons as audios. Given no one on Commons seems to know about this issue, I think it's more to do with our recording MediaWiki extension, which changed a bit a year ago. Yug (talk) 17:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Omg, I suddenly understood what you said the first day.
I don't have that file anymore, it's a temporary video file in the web browser's which is then sent to Commons, the temporary file in the browser is not kept. But It is displayed, so we have an avenue to download it and compare those two origine file vs file on Commons. Thanks for the hint. Yug (talk) 13:35, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:A.C.A.B 02.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so.

How to upload image with enough good quality to we could view chart (Google ngrams or Google Trends)

[edit]

Hello C. Suthorn

I am talking to you because of previously I was involved/contacted with you about teaching me how to upload files. Now I researched great google ngram and google trends chart but unfortunetly I did not upload this as I seen that in bad quality, my phone is called: Galaxy A34 5G SM-A346B/DNS.

And to be opened, at least two charts which I would like to upload are: [3] and perhaps [4]. Cheers. Dawid2009 (talk) 21:22, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aida elephant puppet in Berlin (photo required)

[edit]

Hi. I would like to find a Berliner photographer on Commons, who could possibly photograph the above for me. You can see the elephant in this link, in the Guardian newspaper. But first, please could you tell me whether Panoramafreiheit would permit photography of the elephant in a public place in Berlin? (I am assuming that taking photos during a stage performance is not normally permitted).

Also, if photographing the elephant is permissible when it is in the street, then do you know any contributors whom I could ask? The photograph(s) of the elephant would be useful in the Giant puppet article, and possibly also the Aida article on en.WP. Yes, I know I could add a reqphoto template to the talkpages of those articles, but as you may know, very few of our photographers respond to those. Storye book (talk) 10:55, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Storye book This looks very much like a non permanent work and as such would not fall under Freedom of Panorama in Germany. Two Berlin based fotographers who also have great expertise on FoP are @GPSLeo and @Lucas Werkmeister. I do photographs of Berlin too, but I am not always there. C.Suthorn (@Life_is@no-pony.farm - p7.ee/p) (talk) 11:16, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information. Much appreciated. Storye book (talk) 11:42, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(I wouldn’t describe myself as having FoP expertise, but I can try to help…)
I also think this is unlikely to fall under Freedom of Panorama, unfortunately. If the elephant was built only for promoting the Aida production, then you could perhaps argue that it’s intended for public exhibition for its entire lifetime, and therefore falls under FoP – similar to parade floats: although German Wikipedians were uncertain to skeptical about the subject, categories like Rosenmontagszug Köln 2019 have plenty of photos that seem to have survived so far. But I don’t think this is the case here: this BZ article says that 250 Darsteller und ein gewaltiger beweglicher Stoff-Elefant bringen Giuseppe Verdis Klassiker von 1871 kommendes Jahr […] auf die Bühne (250 actors and a huge mobile cloth elephant bring Giuseppe Verdi’s 1871 classic onto the stage next year), which to me sounds like the elephant is also part of the production, and thus not under permanent public exhibition. Hi, What's the point to upload nearly 1000 (!!!) identical images in PNG format, where only a few are useful. Yann (talk) 14:41, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Freundliche Grüße - Friederike - FriedeWie (talk) 12:27, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Grüße FriedeWie (talk) 10:51, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Public domain, or not?

[edit]

Hello C.Suthorn!

I am trying to understand the license for File:Test_file_png_with_incomplete_iend_chunk.png. Is it CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain, as claimed under "licensing"? If so, why am I not allowed to "copy this image illegally by ignoring the terms of the license below, as it is not in the public domain", per the file description?
